Dr. Marc D. Breton is a founding faculty and the Associate Director of the University of Virginia Center for Diabetes Technology, Charlottesville VA USA. Dr Breton holds a PhD is System engineering and is Associate Professor at the University of Virginia Schools of Medicine and Engineering. As such, Dr Breton’s research focuses on the interface between technology development and clinical research, especially as it pertains to the management of glycaemia in Diabetes Mellitus. Dr Breton’s pioneering work in the use of computer simulation to supplement early clinical trials and the design of the modern Automated Insulin Delivery system, a.k.a. the artificial pancreas, has led to over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 40 patents in the field. Dr Breton was a lead engineer in the development of the UVA artificial pancreas system, which he helped translate to clinical care as part of the Tandem Control-IQ control system.
