Mary Pat Gallagher, MD
Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone and NYU Grossman School of Medicine, New York, New York

As a pediatric endocrinologist specializing in diabetes, Dr. Gallagher has been caring for children and adolescents with diabetes for over two decades. Since 2016, she has served as the Director of the Grossman and Cohen Pediatric Diabetes Center at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone. The Pediatric Diabetes Center cares for infants, children, and adolescents providing interdisciplinary family-centered care with a focus on use of diabetes management technology, education, integrated behavioral health services, and continuous quality improvement.

Dr. Gallagher leads a clinical research team and directs Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital’s participation in multiple national diabetes research networks and learning collaboratives.

Most recently she studied the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the type 1 diabetes population, serving as Co-PI on a multi-center diabetes registry study sponsored by the T1D Exchange. This research identified disparities in outcomes related to race, ethnicity, hemoglobin A1c level, and diabetes device use. The resulting manuscripts underscore the need for additional efforts to increase diabetes device use, particularly in minority populations, and to identify healthcare delivery models that can be more effective for patients with elevated hemoglobin A1c levels.
