Mary Korytkowski, MD

Dr. Korytkowski joined the faculty in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1989.  She has served in several leadership roles since 1989, including Assistant Director (1989-1992) then Director (1992-1995) of the Pittsburgh Diabetes Center, Medical Director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for Diabetes and Endocrinology (1995-2006), Director of Quality Improvement (2001-2020), Chair of the Diabetes Inpatient Safety Committee (DPSC) (2001-2020), and Interim Division Chief (2012-2016), and co-director of the Endocrine Disorders Course for second year medical students (2016-2021).  She is a longstanding member of the Endocrinology Fellowship Curriculum Committee and the School of Medicine Admissions Committee.
 
As Chair of the DPSC, Dr. Korytkowski guided the introduction of standardized protocols directed at improving the safety and quality of care provided to hospitalized patients with diabetes. Her research interests include interventions that promote glycemic and metabolic control in individuals with or at risk for diabetes and inpatient glycemic management.  Dr. Korytkowski served as a member of the Professional Practice Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Research Grant Review Committee for the American Diabetes Association and the Clinical Guidelines Committee for the Endocrine Society.  She currently chairs the writing group for the updated Endocrine Society Clinical Guideline for Inpatient Glycemic Management in Non-Critical illness. She served as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (2014-2018) and the ABIM Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Board Exam Committee (2014-2020).  

Dr. Korytkowski has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, invited commentaries, reviews and book chapters.
