Kong is trained as a biomedical engineer and a clinical investigator. He is currently a senior clinical investigator and chief of Energy Metabolism Section in the Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity Branch, and director of Human Energy & Body Weight Regulation Core of the NIDDK Intramural Research Program. He co-directs the Metabolic Clinical Research Unit at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda Maryland. Kong’s research focus is developing sensor technologies and analytical methods to measure energy expenditure, brown adipose tissue, free-living physical activity, sleep, body temperatures, and investigating physiological mechanisms of regulating energy balance and body weight in humans.
