Sarnath Chattaraj is the Senior Research Director at Medtronic, specializing in diabetes technology. In his role, Dr Chattaraj currently leads the Center of Excellence on Insulin Infusion Engineering, Material Science and Chemistry. His responsibilities include design, development & deployment of innovation in consumable devices, through pre-clinical and clinical science. He has been the lead scientist for the Medtronic Extended Infusion Set, world's First Infusion Set for Insulin Pumps that Doubles Wear Time of standard 2-3 days infusion sets up to 7 days.
With over 30 years of experience in academia and industry, Dr Chattaraj has been involved in a wide range of scientific research such as drug delivery, product engineering, material science and chemistry. Dr Chattaraj has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Burdwan, India, and was inducted a Medtronic Bakken Fellow in 2021 (highest technical honor at Medtronic, approved by the Board), and appointed a Medtronic Technical Fellow in 2012. Since joining Medtronic in 2000, he has been deeply involved in the insulin delivery. His major focus in past 10 years has been in the impact assessment of closed loop algorithm on continuous sub-cutaneous insulin infusion (CSII). He is author of 21 US patents, multiple patent applications and journal publications. One of his latest contributions is in the innovative technology behind the Medtronic Extended Infusion Set that has received CE mark in 2020 and US FDA clearance in 2021, and launched globally since.
