Mark A. Arnold, PhD
University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa
Mark Arnold is the Edwin B. Green Chair Professor of Laser Chemistry and the Director of the Center for Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing at the University of Iowa. He earned his doctorate degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Delaware and has since been a member of the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. His research interests center on the development of chemical sensors for monitoring selected analytes in complex biological systems. Notable applications include 1) the use of near infrared spectroscopy for the simultaneous quantification of multiple analytes in clinical matrices and 2) the development of novel electrochemical biosensors for tracking cellular metabolites in real-time for the optimized control of microbial fermentations for biomanufacturing.
