Ali Cinar, PhD

Ali Cinar is the Hyosung S.R. Cho Endowed Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology and the founding director of the Engineering Center for Diabetes Research and Education (2004). He joined Illinois Tech (also known as IIT) in 1982.

Ali Cinar’s current research includes adaptive control techniques for fully-automated multivariable automated insulin delivery (artificial pancreas) systems for people with diabetes that can detect, discriminate and mitigate meal, physical activity, psychological stress and sleep effects in real time by using streaming physiological data from wearable devices. Ali Cinar published three books, and more than 240 technical papers in journals, books and conference proceedings.

Ali Cinar received the Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University. He received the 2019 Artificial Pancreas Research Award from the Diabetes Technology Society. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a member of ADA and AAAS.
