Ashutosh Sabharwal PhD
Rice University, Houston, Texas

Ashu Sabharwal is the Department Chair and Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rice University. He is the Founding Director of Scalable Health Labs (sh.rice.edu), whose mission to develop sensors, data analytics and trials to uncover behavior-biology causal pathways. The labs focus on three areas: bio-behavioral sensing, mobile bio-imaging, and data science methodologies. Sabharwal is leading several NSF-funded center-scale proposals; most notably, he is the PI of “See below the skin” (seebelowtheskin.org) for non-invasive bio-imaging multi-university effort, and co-investigator on NSF Engineering Research Center, PATHS-UP (pathsup.org) that is developing cost-effective personalized technologies for diabetes. His research has led to four commercial spinoffs (one in wireless and three in healthcare). He is an IEEE Fellow, and was awarded the 2017 IEEE Jack Neubauer Memorial Award, 2018 IEEE Advances in Communications Award, and 2019 ACM Sigmobile Test-of-time Award.
