Ronald Pettis PhD

Dr. Ronald Pettis is the Director, Parenteral Sciences Center of Excellence, and a Principal Scientist at BD Technologies in Research Triangle Park, NC. There he leads a multi-disciplinary engineering, biology and clinical team in areas including diabetes therapy, drug delivery system development, and clinical feasibility evaluation. He has over 30 years of successful technology development experience in parenteral drug delivery systems, pharmaceutical formulations, combination products, pre-clinical pharmacology, first-in-man clinical trials, biological, protein and analytical chemistry, and leading partnerships with major pharma companies and national disease advocacy organizations. He has designed and implemented over 40 translational human clinical trials, transferring multiple technologies from concept through product registration and launch. He has been honored twice with BD’s highest recognition for technical achievement; holds 39 issued US patents; and authored numerous journal articles across various aspects of drug delivery. He recently received the Henry P. Becton Volunteer Impact Award for excellence and creativity in charitable involvement and is a board member for the NC Triangle Region JDRF. He received his BS in chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and MS and PhD in Chemistry from the University of NC at Chapel Hill.
