Building his career on a foundation of expertise in systems design, software, technological, and business leadership, Robert (Bob) Hurtz has contributed to the advancement of copier/printing, high definition television, and medical device devices and systems. In the span of 30 years, his career in industry includes research and development appointments at Xerox Corporation, Sharp Laboratories of America, Broadcom Corporation, Bayer Healthcare, and Ascensia Diabetes Care.

Approximately 3 years ago, Bob transitioned to being the Head of Product Design & Engineering at Ascensia Diabetes Care based in Valhalla NY. Established in 2016 through the acquisition of Bayer Diabetes Care by Panasonic Healthcare Holdings, Ascensia Diabetes Care is a global company dedicated to improving the health and lives of people with diabetes. Already including the world‐renowned CONTOUR™ range of blood glucose monitoring systems, Bob and the team at Ascensia Diabetes Care are committed to adding more innovative and life-changing products and systems to their portfolio.

At Ascensia Diabetes Care, Bob is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of CONTOUR™ Blood Glucose Meter and minimally invasive platforms, products, and user experiences. Central to his team’s work is the creation of systems products/solutions that provide distinctive, dynamic, and innovative user experiences for people with diabetes and their health care providers. His team has a keen focus on security with the CONTOUR Next One BGM becoming the first device certified under the Standard for Wireless Diabetes Device Security (known as DTSec) in May, 2017.

Bob’s background includes a Master of Science in Software Development & Management from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
