Rolf Hinzmann MD, PhD

Rolf Hinzmann studied biochemistry at the University of Hannover, Germany, and completed his PhD in endocrinology at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Endocrinology in Hannover. Thereafter, he studied medicine at Hannover Medical University and then specialized in clinical pathology (“laboratory medicine”). After a period of time at the university lab he moved to the in vitro diagnostic industry in 1996 and worked as a Scientific Marketing Manager for Beckman Coulter. Later he was appointed Medical Director of Sysmex Europe and nine years ago he moved to Roche Diabetes Care where he is currently the Head of Global Medical & Scientific Affairs for Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose and Continuous Glucose Monitoring. In addition, he has worked as an officer in the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) for 18 years now. For more than 4 1/2 years he has been representing the in vitro diagnostic industry in IFCC’s Executive Board. His areas of scientific interest are laboratory medicine, traceability, measurement technologies, haematology, diabetology, glucose monitoring, methods to influence patient behaviour, and didactics in medicine.
