Ali Cinar is Hyosung S.R. Cho Endowed Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology and the founding director of the Engineering Center for Diabetes Research and Education (2004). He joined IIT in 1982. He served as Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate College from 2000 to 2013. His current research includes adaptive control techniques for multivariable artificial pancreas systems and agent-based techniques for modeling of diabetes, angiogenesis and tissue formation. The multivariable artificial pancreas research work focuses on the development of a fully automated system that can detect, discriminate and mitigate physical activity, psychological stress and sleep effects in real time. He published three books, more than 220 technical papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He received the PhD degree in chemical engineering from Texas A& M University. Dr. Cinar is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of American Diabetes Association and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
