Robert A. Gabbay, MD, PhD, has over 30 years of clinical and research experience and is Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Joslin Diabetes Center and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research concentrates on improving health care delivery models to enhance diabetes outcomes and patients’ experiences. This has included implementation of the Patient Centered Medical Home in primary care, where he led one of the first large medical home pilots across 150 practices and 80,000 patients with diabetes. His interventions have included behavior change using motivational interviewing, self-management support, decision support, technology, population health, medical neighborhood, and care management.

Dr. Gabbay’s research has been supported by the National Institute of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid innovation. He has been invited to speak on numerous topics related to diabetes and is a Senior Editor of Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics, Editor-in- Chief of Evidence-Based Diabetes Management and serves on the Editorial Board of Diabetes Forecast. He has published extensively on better approaches to manage people with diabetes.

Dr. Gabbay holds B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry from McGill University, PhD in Biochemistry from University of Wisconsin and MD from State University of New York (SUNY) Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. He completed his residency at New York Hospital – Cornell University Medical Center and fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at a combined Harvard Medical School program that included Joslin Diabetes Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
