James Tabery PhD MA is an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Utah, with additional appointments in the Department of Internal Medicine (Program in Medical Ethics and Humanities) and the Department of Pediatrics. He has published widely on ethical issues regarding triage during an infectious disease pandemic; he has advised hospitals in Utah and Pennsylvania on their institutional triage protocols; and he has taught medical students regularly on ethical issues that arise in times of disaster. Tabery is particularly interested in how triage prioritization schema lead, either intentionally or unintentionally, to ageist, ableist, and/or racist discrimination.
