Welcome Statement

Dear Diabetes Clinician,

We are pleased to invite you to join us this fall for the Tenth Annual Diabetes Technology Meeting on November 11-13, 2010 at the Marriott Bethesda North in Bethesda, Maryland.

This will be an excellent opportunity to meet leading scientists in the field of diabetes research and learn about the latest technological advances for people with diabetes. Last year’s meeting in San Francisco, California brought together over 600 clinicians and scientists from 24 countries to focus on applying science and technology to fight diabetes.

The meeting’s goal is to assemble technology developers and users to facilitate creation of new and cost-effective tools—including an artificial pancreas—to help people with diabetes. The meeting will particularly emphasize original data. Scientists and clinicians will have plenty of opportunities to share ideas in both formal and informal settings, and gain insight into how to help decrease the physical and psychological burden of diabetes.

The format will include state-of-the-art lectures, oral presentations of abstracts, panel discussions with Q&A sessions, and two poster sessions. A syllabus of the submitted abstracts will be distributed to all attendees. Last year we received over 180 abstracts. We will be accepting abstracts on meting topics until June 30.

On the morning of November 11, Diabetes Technology Society will present two optional concurrent workshops: (A)The New Bundled World – Monitoring Diabetes Following Hospital Discharge”, and (B)Continuous Glucose Monitoring”, which is a clinically oriented workshop. In the afternoon, there will be two simultaneous optional workshops on (C) New Ideas for Blood Glucose Measurementand (D) Insulin Pump Safety and Security. Mid-day and mid-afternoon snacks will be provided for workshop participants.

This year’s Diabetes Technology Meeting will include sessions on “Technologies for Metabolic Monitoring”, “Biomarkers for Early Diagnosis of Diabetes”, “Artificial Pancreas: Performance of Closed Loop Systems”, “Alternative Delivery Routes for Insulin”, “Diabetes Telemedicine”, “Panel on Improving Adherence to Therapy”, as well as a live demonstration. As an added feature, the presentations will also incorporate an audience response system.

On the evenings of November 11 and 12, there will be a reception/poster session that will begin at 5:30 p.m. to maximize poster-viewing time. During the conference proper, November 12 and 13, lunch, and two snacks will also be provided.

Every attendee will receive a one-year subscription to “Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology”. This peer-reviewed bimonthly scientific journal is indexed by PubMed and is the world’s first purely electronic diabetes journal (www.journalofdst.org).

We look forward to seeing you in Bethesda and sharing information about projects of mutual interest.

With best wishes,
